Rory Burns was the star of the day as he smashed his maiden test century in a much-needed stage. The hosts resumed their play after 10/0 on day 1. Though Roy was dismissed by Pattinson in the first session, it was Burns who led the battle. A brisk 125 off his bat helped the side to finish at 267/4 today.
The 28-year-old Surrey batsman was all smiles after his knock and bowed down to the dressing room after this three-figure mark. Though there were numerous questions regarding his inclusion for the game, he made sure to tackle with ease. The left-handed batsman himself revealed the mantra that helped him to give his best.
Rory Burns said that some pieces of advice from the seniors ameliorated his game. “We connected with some past players, some of 2005 (England) winners the night before and I was literally ready to run through a brick wall at that stage and get right in amongst it“, said Burns.

His performance against the Irish in the one-off test came under a lot of criticism. But he created the much-needed impact by in his maiden Ashes test. Speaking on the same, Burns said that he was so down after the media reports that surfaced online after the test. “I literally buried my head in the sand to all sorts of comments, media that sort of stuff. I just tried to get myself around people that back me –- team-mates, coaches“, he concluded.

Burns” knock was the talk of the town everywhere. Former Australian skipper Steve Waugh couldn”t stop applauding the youngster for his fantastic knock.
“He obviously knows his game really well and to get a hundred on that pitch is a really good performance in Ashes cricket. His concentration was excellent“, said Waugh.

Additionally, Burns also thanked Darren Lehmann for turning him into a proper batsman during his days at the Adelaide academy.
Burns is still unbeaten and it will be interesting in what mindset will he alongside Ben Stokes will continue the innings.
