India captain Rohit Sharma commended his bowling unit for effectively exploiting a red-soil pitch that benefited both seamers and spinners.
“No matter what the conditions are, whether we play in India or outside, we want to build the team around that,” he said.
“In the last few years, wherever we have travelled, wherever we played, we managed to have that in our armoury – whether it is seam bowling options or spin bowling options.”

After Bangladesh started the day at 158-4, Shanto and all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan successfully thwarted India with their determined resistance during the first hour. Home captain Rohit Sharma called on Ashwin, who promptly ended the partnership in his first over of the day.
The crafty off-spinner tempted Shakib to come forward, resulting in Yashasvi Jaiswal taking a bat-pad catch at short leg to dismiss him for 25 runs. Jadeja then had Litton Das caught in the slips, and the match was essentially sealed when Shanto’s reckless swing against the left-arm spinner led to his wicket.
With their captain gone, a disoriented Bangladesh crumbled, losing the match with five sessions remaining. Ashwin, who scored a crucial century in India’s first innings, was named player of the match.
Shanto expressed that they aimed to prolong the match despite facing a daunting challenge. “We just tried to bat for as long as possible without focusing on the outcome,” he said. “We aimed to follow our process and play to our strengths.”
The Bangladesh captain praised his bowlers and emphasized the need for greater contributions from the batters in the upcoming second Test, which starts in Kanpur on Friday.
“The bowlers performed exceptionally well. I hope the batters will achieve something special in the next match.”
