Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has backed veteran batter Virat Kohli to return to form at the 2022 Asia Cup. The tournament is all set to take place in the United Arab Emirates this month. India will kick off their campaign against Pakistan on Sunday, August 28 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Kohli, who has been struggling off late, will be desperate to get some runs under his belt.
The 33-year-old’s form has drawn a lot of criticism from experts and fans. Some have questioned his place in the Indian T20I team, with the T20 World Cup 2022 around the corner. Kohli averages 20.25 in four T20Is this year for India. He was rested from the following to West Indies and Zimbabwe recently.
Virat Kohli will make a comeback to India’s team in the upcoming Asia Cup tournament. Speaking to Star Sports, Ravi Shastri backed to former Indian skipper to reply to the critics in style. He expressed that if Virat Kohli slams a fifty in the opening clash against Pakistan, the critic’s “mouths will be shut”. Shastri said,
“I haven’t spoken to Virat Kohli recently but the ‘big guys’ always wake up at the right time. The downtime for Kohli was good before the Asia Cup gave him a good chance to reflect. If he manages to get a fifty in the match against Pakistan, mouths will be shut.”
“One innings can make a difference. He needs one innings to get back because the hunger is undiminished. What’s happened in the past is history. Remember public memory is very short,” he added.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri termed Virat Kohli as the fittest player in the Indian team. He expressed that no one can match the right-handed batter’s fitness level and work ethic. Shastri also stated that he is sure that Virat Kohli will return to form soon. He said,
“Kohli is the fittest player in the Indian team and nobody can match Virat Kohli’s work ethic the way he trained. He is a machine. No question, he will definitely come back in his best form. His hunger and passion are unbelievable.”
