As the 2023 Asia Cup 2023 approaches, the Indian cricket team is diligently preparing for the tournament with a rigorous training camp in Alur. A significant part of this preparation involves the mandatory yo-yo fitness test, which the majority of the players have already completed. However, KL Rahul and five other players are set to undergo the test at a later date due to various reasons.
The yo-yo test holds immense importance as players need to clear it to secure their positions in the national team. This requirement stems from the significance of the Asia Cup, especially in a World Cup year, where the Men in Blue are determined to reclaim the trophy after a five-year hiatus.
Head coach Rahul Dravid is overseeing the training camp, ensuring that the players are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts. Unfortunately, KL Rahul’s participation in the first match against Pakistan seems uncertain due to an ongoing niggle, possibly affecting his ability to take the yo-yo test. Shreyas Iyer, returning from an injury, also hasn’t undergone the test.
Team India are one of the favourites of Asia Cup 2023
Notably, Jasprit Bumrah, Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson, and Prasidh Krishna joined the camp from Ireland but couldn’t undergo the test due to their arrival timing. They are expected to complete the test before heading to Sri Lanka.
Shubman Gill emerged as the fittest player in the yo-yo test, showcasing his strength with a score of 18.7. Virat Kohli also shared his score of 17.2 on social media, highlighting his commitment to fitness. The rest of the players successfully passed the fitness test, reaffirming their readiness for the upcoming challenges.
With the Asia Cup being a critical tournament in the lead-up to the World Cup, the Indian cricket team’s dedication to their fitness and preparation is commendable. As the players strive to achieve peak physical condition, their collective efforts under the guidance of Rahul Dravid could play a pivotal role in India’s quest for cricketing glory in the Asia Cup and beyond.
