Asia Cup 2023: “Sweet Mangoes” – Twitterati Respond To Naveen-ul-Haq’s Exclusion From Afghanistan Squad
Naveen-ul-Haq

Fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq hasn’t secured a spot in Afghanistan’s lineup for the Asia Cup 2023. The right-arm paceman engaged in a verbal exchange with Virat Kohli during this year’s IPL, creating anticipation among fans for a face-off between Kohli and Naveen in the Asia Cup.

Ul-Haq engaged in a verbal fight with Virat Kohli during the game between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Bharat Ratna Shree Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium.

Following the conclusion of the match, Naveen and Virat engaged in another intense discussion while the rest of the players exchanged handshakes. Naveen also made posts about ‘ripe mangoes’ on social media whenever Kohli or his team had underwhelming performances in the IPL.

Fans reacted after Naveen-ul-Haq was left out of Afghanistan’s ODI squad for the Asia Cup 2023:

Naveen-ul-Haq has taken 14 wickets in seven ODIs

The Afghanistan team has seen the right-arm pacer participate in seven matches, securing a total of 14 wickets. Naveen has upheld a commendable economy rate of 5.78 across those 14 games, and his bowling average stands at 25.42. However, despite these promising figures, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has not included him in the ODI squad since 2021. Naveen’s most recent ODI appearance for Afghanistan took place in a match against Ireland in Abu Dhabi on January 26, 2021.

Afghanistan squad for Asia Cup 2023:

Hashmatullah Shahidi (captain), Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmat Shah, Abdul Rahman, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Suliman Safi, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Ikram Alikhil, Rashid Khan, Riaz Hassan, Gulbadin Naib, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Karim Janat, Mohammad Saleem, and Fazalhaq Farooqi.

In the squad, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Abdul Rahman, and Mohammad Saleem are the three specialized fast bowlers. Additionally, all-rounders Gulbadin Naib and Karim Janat can also contribute some overs of pace for Afghanistan.
