The Indian Women’s Cricket Team registered a historic gold medal as they defeated Sri Lanka by 19 runs in the finals of the 2023 Asian Games played at the Zhejiang University of Technology Pingfeng Cricket Field, Hangzhou on 25th September.
After opting to bat first, Jemimah Rodrigues and Smriti Mandhana put up 73 runs for the second wicket. It was a tough wicket to bat on as the rest of the Indian batters struggled as they scored 116 for 7 in 20 overs.
The 18-year-old young pacer Titas Sadhu looked impressive in her debut match against Bangladesh. She rose to the occasion in the finals getting wickets of Anushka Sanjeewani and Vishmi Gunaratne in the same over. Sadhu then took big wicket of Sri Lankan captain Chamari Atthapthu with a lovely catch by Deepti Sharma to put Lanka under immense pressure.
Sadhu was introduced into the attack for her final over against Odashi Ranasinghe and Nilakshi De Silva to break the partnership. She ended with figures of 3 for 6 in her 4 overs. It was a terrific bowling effort by Women in Blue to win the match by 19 runs and win the gold medal.

Titas Sadhu’s Career In Cricket
Titas Sadhu did want to become a cricketer and travel with her father to Chinsurah Rajendra Smriti Sangha Academy on the outskirts of Kolkata. She started cricket at the age of 13 and waited to break into the Bengal Cricket Team.
At the age of 16, Titas Sadhu was included Bengal squad. Bengal’s women’s coach Shiv Shankar Paul saw her talent at the training sessions and played her in three practice games. The 18-year-old youngster showed her class with some superb performances in the first edition of the ICC Under 19 T20 World Cup 2023 played in South Africa.
The youngster did a superb job in the semi-finals against New Zealand with 1 for 17 in her 3 overs and helped India to restrict the White Ferns to a modest total of 107 for 9.
Sadhu rose to the occasion with match match-winning performance of 2 for 6 in 4 overs overs to bowl England for 68. Her performance stood out and helped India become the champions of this prestigious title.
