Pakistan Cricket Board announced its 15-member squad for the upcoming Asian Games 2023 to be played in Hangzhou, China from 23rd September onwards.
They have sent their second-string side for the prestigious tournament. Qasim Akram will lead the side along with international experienced players in the squad. Asif Ali and Haider Ali, Khusdil Shah have been included in the Asian Games tournament.
Arafat Minhas, Sufiyan Muqeem, Rohail Nazir, Aamir Jamal, Iqbal, Bin Yousuf, Akram, and Dahani featured for the Pakistan Shaheens in the past. Pakistan A side played in Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, and Australia recently. They lost the six-match ODI series to Zimbabwe in Zimbabwe by 2-4. Pakistan Emerging side lifted the ACC Emerging Trophy played in Sri Lanka by defeating arch-rivals India in a one-sided contest.
Asian Games 2023: Format of the Tournament
According to the rules, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India, and Bangladesh will qualify directly for the Asian Games quarterfinals due to higher rankings. The quarterfinals will be played on the 3rd and 4th of October 2023. After the top eight stage, the semi-finals and finals will take place on 7th October while the bronze medal will take place on 7th October.
Pakistan featured in the Asian Games cricket tournament once during the 2010 edition. They won the bronze medal during that edition and would be hoping to go one better in this year’s edition.
It promises to be an exciting Asian Games as India and Pakistan might play each other in this competition if everything goes smoothly. Pakistan will face the winner of Winner of Match 8 on 4th October.
