AUS vs WI: [WATCH] Travis Head Takes An Outstanding Reflex Catch At Short-Leg During The 1st Test

Australian standout Travis Head maintains his impressive form by executing a remarkable reflex catch at short-leg on Day 2 of the first Test against the West Indies in Adelaide. West Indies captain Kraig Brathwaite flicked an innocuous full-length delivery from Josh Hazlewood.

Head swiftly bent low to his left and secured the catch with both hands just inches above the ground. This fielding brilliance reduced the visitors to a challenging 1/2 in the second innings, prompting Head’s teammates to celebrate the outstanding catch.

Earlier in the day, Travis Head played a brilliant innings, scoring a century to rescue Australia from a difficult situation and put them in a position of strength. With the team struggling at 67/3 and still behind the West Indies’ first-innings total by 121 runs, the left-handed batsman smashed 119 runs off 134 deliveries. His innings enabled Australia to secure a 95-run lead in the first innings on a pitch favourable to seam bowling.

This marked Head’s seventh Test century and his first of the Australian home summer, following a relatively quiet series with the bat against Pakistan. The 30-year-old had recently played a crucial role in Australia winning their sixth ODI World Cup title, earning Player of the Match honours in the semi-final and final.

Australia is completely in charge of the Adelaide Test

After a challenging day and a half, Australia seized control of the initial Test against the West Indies in the latter part of Day 2. In an unexpected decision, Australia won the toss and opted to bowl first. However, they justified this choice by dismissing the West Indies for a mere 188 runs. Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins played key roles, each taking four wickets.

Yet, the away team showcased remarkable resilience, bringing down Australia to 168/6. However, Travis Head’s century and valuable contributions from the lower order diminished West Indies’ hopes. Holding a substantial lead of 95 runs, Josh Hazlewood delivered an impressive opening spell, claiming the initial four West Indian wickets.

The 33-year-old, surpassing 250 Test wickets in the initial innings, created turmoil in the West Indian team, bringing them to 19/4 in less than ten overs. With the score at 33/4 after 12 overs and trailing Australia by 66 runs, the West Indies are on the verge of extending their winless streak against Australia to 20 games.

The reigning World Test Championship champions had previously dominated Pakistan 3-0 at the start of their home summer before the current two-Test series.
