Watch: Australian Cricketers Cheers For Mitchell Starc’s Brother Brandon Competing In Tokyo Olympics

Australia is currently in Dhaka gearing up for the upcoming five-match Test series, which gets underway on July 3 (Tuesday). The cricketers were spotted cheering for fast bowler Mitchell Starc’s brother Brandon Starc, who is representing Australia in the Tokyo Olympics.

A long-jumper for Australia, Brandon was competing in the men’s high jump final at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics on Sunday. The entire Australian contingent including Mitchell Starc was glued to their laptop cheering for their fellow Aussie.

Although the results didn’t go in favour of Mitchell Starc’s brother, there was no short of excitement. Brandon finished fifth in the men’s high jump final with a distance of 2.35 meters. Qatar’s Mutaz Essa Barshim and Italy’s Gianmarco Tamberi shared the gold medal after finishing on top while Belarus’ Maksim Nedasekau won the bronze medal with a jump of 2.37m.

Matthew Wade to lead Australia against Bangladesh

Cricket Australia has confirmed veteran wicket-keeper batsman Matthew Wade will lead the side against Bangladesh in the absence of regular skipper Aaron Finch owing to an injury.

With Finch ruled out and regular vice-captain Pat Cummins among a host of senior players absent from the white-ball campaigns, Alex Carey took over from Finch in the recent one-day internationals against the Windies. But Matthew Wade will lead Australia in what could be the team’s final T20 matches before the World Cup.

Wade has captained extensively at the domestic level with Victoria, Tasmania and the Hobart Hurricanes. He said the major difference doing the job in green and gold will be the fact he has the gloves on.

“I’m obviously wicketkeeping so the distance between the bowler and myself is a lot greater and that means there’s a lot more responsibility on the individual,” Wade told reporters from Dhaka.

“When you come in and take over from someone it’s just about giving the ability for those guys to really take ownership of their game and at the top of the mark, they need to execute,” he added.
