In the recent T20I match against Afghanistan, Axar Patel performed well by taking two wickets for 23 runs in four overs. The Indian all-rounder emphasized that he isn’t overly concerned about being chosen for the forthcoming T20 World Cup. During the match, Axar showcased his bowling prowess as India secured a six-wicket victory over Afghanistan in Mohali.
He took crucial wickets by dismissing Rahmanullah Gurbaz and the debutant Rahmat Shah successively. Despite India having only two more T20Is before the World Cup, Axar mentioned that he’s avoiding any undue stress about his selection to keep himself focused.
Axar Patel said: “Obviously, we have just 2 more games and then there is IPL in place. But I’m not thinking that way. It’s a World Cup Year, the competition is there but it’s up to you how to take it. But most importantly, you need to stick to the process. So, there is this Test series and then IPL before the World Cup. So, I’m not thinking too about it and keeping myself away from the selection pressure.”
“Aapne mera record dekha hoga, kuch bhi kar sakta hoon main (You must have seen my record, I can do anything). So, not thinking too far as of now.”
Axar Patel confidently expressed his versatility with a subtle smile. Regarding the game, despite challenging cold conditions, Shivam Dube showcased resilience by scoring an unbeaten half-century and also grabbing a wicket, helping India comfortably defeat Afghanistan in the initial T20 match on Thursday.
Dube, batting left-handed, achieved 60 runs off 40 deliveries, marking his second T20 fifty as India successfully chased down 159 runs, finishing with six wickets in hand and 15 balls remaining in Mohali.
With this victory, India leads the three-game series 1-0, gearing up for the T20 World Cup in June. The next T20I is set to take place on Sunday in Indore.
