Bajrang Dal Protests Ahead of India-Bangladesh T20 Match In Gwalior

On Sunday, Bajrang Dal workers staged a black flag protest as the Bangladesh cricket team passed by the Mela Ground in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. This protest occurred ahead of the scheduled T20 match between India and Bangladesh.

The workers demonstrated against the Bangladesh team, expressing discontent over alleged mistreatment of Hindus in Bangladesh. The demonstration took place despite a district administration ban on protests near the stadium. The local police detained several protesters to prevent the situation from escalating.

Protests Citing Alleged Persecution of Hindus

Bajrang Dal’s vice president for Madhya Bharat, Pappu Verma, addressed the protest, stating that the treatment of Hindus in Bangladesh, especially after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government, had deeply hurt their sentiments.

He emphasized that the protest aimed to highlight the alleged atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh. Other right-wing groups have also expressed their discontent with the Bangladesh government, with Hindu Mahasabha’s national vice president, Jaiveer Bhardwaj, noting that shops in Gwalior’s Lashkar area remained closed until 1 pm in solidarity with the protests.

Heavy Police Presence to Ensure Law and Order

To ensure the smooth conduct of the T20 match, the district administration issued prohibitory orders banning protests near the Madhavrao Scindia Stadium. Over 2,500 police personnel were deployed in the area to maintain law and order.

Only individuals with valid tickets were permitted to enter the vicinity of the stadium, with strict checks in place to prevent any disruptions. The police’s quick action to detain protesters and secure the stadium area was aimed at keeping the event free from incidents that could disturb the match.

The black flag protest by Bajrang Dal workers ahead of the India-Bangladesh T20 match in Gwalior reflects ongoing tensions over alleged mistreatment of Hindus in Bangladesh following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government.

Despite prohibitory orders and heavy police deployment, several protesters demonstrated against the Bangladesh cricket team, expressing their anger over these alleged atrocities.

While the district administration worked to maintain order with a significant police presence, detaining some protesters and restricting access around the stadium, the protest underscored the intersection of sports and political tensions in the region.
