South Africa wicketkeeper-batter Kyle Verreynne celebrated his first Test century on Day 2 of the opening match against Bangladesh at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on October 22. He scored 114 runs off 144 balls, including two sixes and eight fours, making him the third South African wicketkeeper to achieve a Test century in Asia, following AB de Villiers and Quinton de Kock.
During his innings, Verreynne formed a crucial 119-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Wiaan Mulder, who scored 54 off 112 balls, helping the team recover from 108/6 and take a 202-run lead over Bangladesh.
He reached his milestone in the 86th over of South Africa’s innings when he played a full-length delivery from Taijul Islam for a single to fine leg. Verreynne then celebrated by punching the air and taking a bow, as fans and teammates applauded, reminiscent of India’s Shubman Gill‘s celebrations.
