In a shocking incident, a Bangladesh cricketer was approached for spot-fixing during the ongoing 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup, as per reports. It is alleged that a woman cricketer from outside the Bangladesh World Cup team made an objectionable proposal to one of the squad members.

On Tuesday, Dhaka-based Jamuna TV reported an audio conversation between two cricketers, one who is in Bangladesh and the other who is with the World Cup squad. The former approached the latter for spot-fixing. Espncricinfo reported the conversation between the two cricketers.

“I am not forcing anything. You can play if you want. The fact that I told you, you can play this time or not. You choose which match you want to play. You can offer the match. It is your wish. You did well in one match, you can play the next game or not. The team management will let you do that,” the cricketer in Bangladesh is heard telling the one in South Africa.

In reply, the player in South Africa said: “No my friend, I am not involved in these things. Please don’t tell me these things. I won’t be able to do these things ever. I request you not to tell me these things, please.”

Spot-fixing approach incident reported to Anti-corruption Unit

The approached player has reported the incident to the International Cricket Council’s anti-corruption unit (ACU). The incident has sent shocking waves in Bangladesh cricket. The allegations will be investigated by the Anti-Corruption Unit. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director and women’s wing chairman Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel confirming the incident, said,

“Our cricketer from the World Cup squad, who has been approached [for fixing], has immediately reported it to the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU). Now, the rest will be dealt with by the ACU. We do not have jurisdiction over these matters as it will be looked into by ACU. But, yes, we are aware of it.”
