In an exciting development for Bihar’s sports infrastructure, the iconic Moin-ul-Haq Stadium in Patna is set for a major transformation. This initiative, led by the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) in partnership with the Bihar government, aims to elevate the stadium to international standards, thereby positioning Bihar as a notable destination for sports in India.
Landmark Agreement for Bihar Cricket
The Bihar government recently signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the BCA. This agreement grants the BCA a 30-year lease to oversee the stadium’s redevelopment and management, with an initial lease rate set at a nominal ₹1 per year.
The BCA has undertaken the mission to transform Moin-ul-Haq Stadium into a world-class sports facility. This redevelopment is set to not only enhance the infrastructure for cricket but also create a comprehensive sports and entertainment hub suitable for international events.
The agreement grants the BCA control of the stadium’s redevelopment for three decades. For the first seven years, the BCA will pay only ₹1 per year, allowing it to allocate funds toward development.
After seven years, the BCA will share 50% of the stadium’s profits with the Bihar government, ensuring a mutually beneficial arrangement that supports both cricket development and state revenues.
BCA President stated, “This redevelopment is a huge leap forward for cricket and sports in Bihar. We aim to create a top-tier sports complex that meets international standards. The BCA is committed to fulfilling all the government’s expectations in this ambitious project.”
Plans for a World-Class Sports Complex
The planned enhancements aim to create a holistic sports complex that will accommodate diverse events and provide an enhanced experience for spectators and players alike.
With seating capacity increased to 40,000, along with 76 corporate boxes and 250 VIP boxes, the revamped stadium will comfortably host large audiences for high-profile matches and events.
To accommodate visiting teams and dignitaries, the stadium complex will feature five-star hotels, player hostels, restaurants, and a clubhouse, establishing it as a premier destination for both sports and leisure.
Boosting Bihar’s Sports Culture
The Bihar government’s commitment to the project is evident, as shown by its support in waiving the ₹37 crore registration fee for the BCA, which will facilitate faster progress and greater investment in the stadium.
The project is set to break ground in January, with high expectations for the timely laying of the foundation stone. Key leaders such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Home Minister Amit Shah are expected to attend the ceremony. The Moin-ul-Haq Stadium’s redevelopment aligns with a broader vision of nurturing sports talent in Bihar and positioning the state as a leader in India’s sports landscape.
