BCB Focus On Retaining Hosting Rights For The Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 Despite Political Tensions

In the middle of political instability, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is optimistic that Bangladesh will be on schedule to host the Women’s T20 World Cup. The current political crisis in Bangladesh or even the current rioting does not affect the ICC tournament, according to the BCB’s chief Nizamuddin Chowdhury.

Now for the very first time, Bangladesh will be the sole host to stage the ninth Women’s T20 World Cup. It is proposed to start the main event on the 3rd of October and complete it by the 20th of October when the summit confrontation will take place. Bangladeshi political unrest is being shocked by the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Her leaving Bangladesh earlier this week.

In Bangladesh, street protests have turned violent, violent deaths are suspected to have reached over 150. The protests are for demanding employment quotas in the government for the families of the heroine liberation freedom fighters in the 1971 Independence War. All citizens of the country were put under house arrest, and they had their internet connection turned off remotely.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) now controls Bangladesh’s chances of hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup due to the collapse of the Awami League government and subsequent fall of the government. Regarding security assurance for the event, the BCB has written to General Waker-Uz-Zaman, the Chief of Staff of the Bangladesh Army. In order to evaluate other options, the ICC is currently trying to get a clear picture of whether holding the event in Bangladesh is feasible.

“We had communicated with them [the Army] but by that time the [interim] government had already been formed. Since it has been formed, they will place priority on it as required,” BCB chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury told The Daily Star.

“We have communicated with them and the sooner we get a response the better we will understand the situation. We had communicated with them very late yesterday [Thursday] and there was very little time for them to go through it,” he added.
