The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 16-member squad that will take on West Indies in a three-match ODI series. The first-choice cricketers including regular captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been rested for the tour, keeping in mind the busy schedule India have in the next few months, including the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia later this year.

Veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan has been appointed as the captain of the squad, while ace all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will be working as his deputy. Dhawan is the seventh captain across formats to lead India in the last few months.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer have been selected in the squad. They will hope to make a mark with the ICC ODI World Cup lined up next year in India. Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan have both been named in the side in the absence of Rishabh Pant.

Deepak Hooda, who smashed a sensational hundred against Ireland, has also been added to the side. Young fast bowler Arshdeep Singh, who impressed in IPL 2022, has also made the cut in the squad.

The three-match ODI series against the West Indies will be played at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad. The first match of the series is scheduled to take place on July 22, while the second and third games of the series are slated to take place on July 24 and 27 and respectively.

They will subsequently play five T20Is against the two-time world champions, in Trinidad, St Kitts and Lauderhill (Florida) with the tour finishing with the two T20Is in the USA on August 6 and 7.
