The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has stood firm on its rules concerning the presence of players’ families during tours and tournaments. The governing body denied the players’ request to have their families accompany them during the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 in the subcontinent.
The BCCI had introduced strict guidelines on family travel following the controversial 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar series in Australia. Under the current regulations, players are permitted to have their family members join them only for a two-week period if the tour lasts more than 45 days.
“The Indian team management had approached the BCCI to ask whether wives and fiancées can travel with the team and whether they can also stay with them. The board has made it clear that families won’t be staying with the players. They can make separate arrangements, though, if they want to,” a BCCI source told the Indian Express.
Team India’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign began on February 7 and may continue until March 8, lasting a little over a month, which is much shorter than the 45 days planned by the BCCI. The team will have a busy travel schedule throughout the tournament.
After their 29-run victory over the USA in the opening match, they moved from Mumbai to Delhi. Next, they will travel overseas to Sri Lanka to face Pakistan, return to India for their final group-stage match, and continue extensive travel through the Super 8 and knockout rounds.
Team India to face Namibia in their next T20 World Cup 2026 match
The defending champions arrived in Delhi ahead of their next group match against Namibia, which will take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday, February 12. The team and support staff recently had a dinner at head coach Gautam Gambhir’s home while continuing their preparations for the match.
India is currently at the top of Group A due to net run rate but is struggling with several injuries in the squad.
