BCCI Facing Logistical Problems After IPL 2021 Is Suspended

The BCCI is facing problems in sending the overseas players back home after the IPL 2021 was suspended. Various IPL franchises are trying their best to help their overseas players get back home but they have not been entirely successful so far. Having decided that the overseas players need to be sent back by charter flights, the CEOs and logistics managers of the teams, and of the BCCI as well, have been working overtime in organising flights and obtaining permissions for the take-offs.

Adding to the problem is the fact that four of the eight franchises have players who have tested COVID positive. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians are sending all their overseas players by their own charter flights and they are believed to have offered players from other franchises join them. With no UK player in their camp, no MI flight was bound for London, but definitely to other countries – South Africa, New Zealand and the Caribbean.

The MI players destined for New Zealand — Trent Boult, Adam Milne, James Neesham, Shane Bond, etc — are likely to be joined by a few Kiwis from other teams while the flight for the Caribbean is being planned to fly via Johannesburg where it will off-load its South African players.

Meanwhile, the BCCI and Cricket Australia have decided on arranging a chartered flight for 40 Australians to return from India back to their country. It includes players and coaching staff from different franchises.

Two other charter flights were to leave Ahmedabad on Tuesday, where four teams were staying. One was for the South cities – Chennai and Bangalore – while another was to leave for Delhi. These flights were carrying Indian domestic players.

Meanwhile, eight of the 11 England players who played in then IPL reached the UK on Wednesday. The remaining three Eoin Morgan, Chris Jordan and Dawid Malan were to reach in the next 48 hours.
