The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has inaugurated a cutting-edge National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, rebranded as the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE). This new facility replaces the old NCA, which operated within the M Chinnaswamy Stadium since 2000.
Spanning 40 acres near Kempegowda International Airport, the Centre boasts three world-class grounds and 86 pitches, making it one of the finest cricket training centers in the world. The main ground, Ground A, features advanced floodlights and broadcasting systems, while Grounds B and C are designed for focused practice sessions.
World-Class Training and Facilities
The new CoE is equipped with a range of elite training resources. It has 45 outdoor net pitches of various soil types—Mumbai red, Mandya, and Kalahandi black cotton—all arranged for safety and efficient use.
A dedicated fielding practice area, six outdoor running tracks, and an indoor practice facility with eight premium turfs from the UK and Australia ensure that players can train in any weather. The Centre also includes innovative features like subsurface drainage, guaranteeing quick recovery after rain, and integrated cameras to support analytical training.
Sports Science and Athlete Development
The facility is more than just about cricket. It houses a state-of-the-art Sports Science & Medicine (SSM) block, which includes a 16,000-square-foot gym with high-end equipment, a physiotherapy rehab center, and a recovery area with a jacuzzi, sauna, and underwater spa.
The Centre also has an 80-seater meeting room, swimming pool, and dormitory accommodations. This world-class setup, conceptualized by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, is expected to revolutionize sports training in India, benefiting not only cricketers but also Olympians, thereby enhancing the country’s sports ecosystem.
