BCCI Reveals Rest Of India Squad For Irani Cup 2024, Featuring Dhruv Jurel And Yash Dayal

On Tuesday, September 24, 2024, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Rest of India (ROI) squad for the prestigious Irani Cup 2024. Notably, wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel and left-arm pacer Yash Dayal have been included in the team, subject to their availability based on participation in the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur.

The Irani Cup, established in 1959, remains a key event in India’s domestic cricket calendar, pitting the Ranji Trophy champions against a Rest of India side.

The 2024 Irani Cup clash will take place from October 1 to October 5 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The ROI squad, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, includes several prominent players like Abhimanyu Easwaran (vice-captain), Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, and Ishan Kishan. The bowling lineup boasts an impressive mix of talent, including pacers Prasidh Krishna, Mukesh Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, and spinners Rahul Chahar and Manav Suthar.

Mumbai, who recently clinched their 42nd Ranji Trophy title in March 2024, will face the ROI team in this upcoming encounter. In the Ranji Trophy final, Mumbai triumphed over Vidarbha by 169 runs, with Musheer Khan earning the Player of the Match award for his outstanding all-round performance (136 & 2/48).

The Irani Cup has witnessed some remarkable performances in recent years. The Rest of India team dominated the last two editions, winning by 238 runs against Madhya Pradesh in 2022 and by 175 runs against Saurashtra in 2023. Expectations are high for another competitive contest in 2024, with both sides fielding strong squads.

The BCCI has also provided updates on the availability of Sarfaraz Khan, stating that he will be released from the Indian squad to represent Mumbai in the Irani Cup, should he not participate in the second Test against Bangladesh.

With the presence of several talented players and a rich history behind it, the Irani Cup 2024 promises to deliver an exciting and high-stakes contest between domestic cricket’s finest.
