In a significant announcement, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has unveiled a major initiative concerning Indian domestic cricket competitions. For the first time, the Indian board is to compensate both the Player of the Match as well as the Player of the Tournaments about women and junior cricket tournaments.
Previously, this scheme was only directed towards senior men’s tournaments, but now, it will cover the best players in other categories such as women’s and junior competitions. In addition, Jay Shah has also revealed that every game played during Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali tournaments shall award the Player of Match title to its best player.
Taking to X earlier today, Shah stated:
“We are introducing prize money for the Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament in all Women’s and Junior Cricket tournaments under our Domestic Cricket Programme.”
“Additionally, prize money will be awarded for the Player of the Match in the Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali tournaments for Senior Men. This initiative aims to recognize and reward outstanding performances in the domestic circuit,” he added.

In the last section of his tweet, the BCCI Secretary thanked the Apex Council for their support in this effort.

Shah’s last words on his tweet were that this initiative will help create a better environment for players at domestic level. The players can earn more money by participating in local tournaments, as cash prizes will be given for every game played.
Shah emphasized on domestic cricket in the recent few months. He has even force some of the established international players to participate in domestic matches when there is no international game. A number of experienced Indian cricketers will be featuring in the next Duleep Trophy competition.
