The BCCI secretary, Jay Shah has directed that INR 1 crore should be released for the cancer treatment of the former Indian cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad on Sunday at the earliest.

Gaekwad also has blood cancer, and at the time of this writing, he was admitted to King’s Hospital in London. The former Indian stalwarts like Kapil Dev, Sandeep Patil, Sunil Gavaskar, Mohinder Amarnath, Ravi Shastri, and many more earlier sought BCCI’s financial aid for Anathuman Gaekwad’s medical treatment.

Indian cricket team, which won the World Cup in 1983 raised funds for Gaekwad who was diagnosed with cancer later. Later on, after so many follow-ups with the BCCI board, the board agreed to give him INR 1 crore for his cancer treatment.

“The board stands by Gaekwad’s family in this hour of crisis and will do whatever is essential for Mr Gaekwad’s quick recovery. The BCCI will continue to monitor Mr Gaekwad’s progress and is confident that he will come out of this phase strongly,” the BCCI Apex Council stated.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah instructed BCCI to release Rs 1 crore with immediate effect to provide financial assistance to India’s veteran cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad, who is battling cancer. Shah also spoke to Gaekwad’s family, took stock of the situation, and provided assistance: BCCI Apex Council,” wrote the caption.

For India, Anshuman Gaekwad has participated in 40 test matches and 15 one-day international matches. The former right-hand hitter played against the West Indies in December 1974 to make his Test debut.

He also scored 85 Test runs at an average of 30 in Test cricket, which is also an interesting figure. In 2007, he had made 210 half-century strides. He made 201 runs in Jalandhar in the 1982–83 season against Pakistan.
