BCCI Should Answer Questions On MS Dhoni, Says Irfan Pathan

A lot of speculations have been going around over the retirement of the former India skipper MS Dhoni. He has gone on a sabbatical since India’s ouster from the 2019 ICC World Cup losing to New Zealand in the semifinals.

While the entire country has been debating about his return and subsequent retirement, MS Dhoni has remained mum and has enjoyed the holiday taking part in various activities. However, he returned to training in the first week of March, to gear up for the 13th edition of IPL. He was joined by the likes of Suresh Raina, Piyush Chawla, and Murali Vijay at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, where thousands turned out to see their favourite star train.

But MS Dhoni had to return after Chennai Super Kings called off their training due to the rise in COVID-19. And with no signs of improvements, BCCI is pondering to cancel the cash-rich league which will make the return of the 38-year-old much difficult.

Recently, reports have emerged the cricketer from Jharkhand is likely to hang his boots in 2020. But with things still not clear, former India cricketer Irfan Pathan feels that the BCCI led by Sourav Ganguly should be on the driver’s seat on this issue.

“He obviously needs to play,” Pathan told Indian Express. “If he does, he should for India. He is the most amazing cricketer we have. He has been fantastic for the country. He has given so much to the world of cricket. But if he (Dhoni) is just drafted in, will it be fair for those who have been playing regularly is an important question. KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant have been playing consistently for a year. So, this question needs to be answered by the board,” said Irfan.

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni has had a great run with India and will go down as one of the illustrious players in history. He is also the only skipper in the world to win three ICC titles and is one of the best finishers the game has witnessed.
