Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise owners and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will meet to talk about aspects of the major auction, including team retention. On Wednesday evening, July 31, the ‘Impact Player’ regulation is likely to be a major topic of discussion between the BCCI and the IPL club owners.
During the IPL season of last year, the BCCI implemented the Impact Player Regulation. A team may insert a bowler or hitter at any point throughout the game under the Impact Player rule. It enabled the teams to change their batting approach to become more forceful. Eight innings above 250 runs were among the more than 200 runs scored in the IPL 2024.
BCCI and IPL franchise owners are set to meet on July 31:
The BCCI wants to reach some kind of agreement on the “Impact Player Rule,” which has caused division in the IPL cricket community. This is stated in a one-page, five-point agenda that was presented to the franchise owners.
According to the source, the BCCI and the franchise owners will meet on July 31 at 7:30 p.m. in the BCCI headquarters, which is located on the fourth floor of the Wankhede Stadium Complex.
The implementation of the ‘Impact Player’ policy a few years ago has generated a great deal of debate and conversation inside the IPL community. Broadcasters, who have contributed more than Rs 48,000 crore to the league, seem to be firmly in favour of it continuing, even if the playing and coaching communities are said to be primarily against it.
The BCCI is split on a rule that could help an Indian player, but they are worried about how it would affect all-rounders’ growth. Reports indicate that BCCI could even remove the regulation from the Syed Mushtaq Ali domestic T20 league, where it was originally tested a few years ago, although it was included in the meeting schedule.

It seems that the BCCI and the IPL franchise are open to recommendations of giving a performing player a one-year contract boost. The idea of extending the auction cycle from three to five times is not mentioned.
