Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has lost his father to cancer earlier today in Meerut. He becomes the latest Indian cricketer to lose his near and dear ones amid the pandemic. Bhuvi’s father Kiran Pal Singh was fighting a battle against cancer for a long time and also had liver ailments. He was earlier undergoing treatment at a hospital in Noida but was staying at home with the rest of the family for the last few days. The 63-year-old passed away at his Meerut residence.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s father was employed with Uttar Pradesh Police and had taken voluntary retirement since he was suffering from the illness for a long while. Bhuvi who was not included in the Indian squad for WTC final and England series was at his home and taking care of his father.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar Loses His Father To Cancer
As far as treatment is concerned, Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s father had undergone successful chemotherapy in Noida and Delhi. However, his condition deteriorated a couple of weeks ago following which he was admitted to a hospital in Ganga Nagar in Meerut and was later shifted to another hospital in Muzaffarnagar.
However, unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the family, Bhuvi’s father breathed his last earlier today and his son was beside him when he passed away.
Meanwhile, Bhuvneshwar Kumar had earlier slammed reports of his unwillingness to play Test cricket for India. He took to Twitter to even give a clarification on the same.
“There have been articles about me not wanting to play Test cricket. Just to clarify, I have always prepared myself for all three formats irrespective of the team selection and will continue to do the same. Suggestion – please don’t write your assumptions based on “sources”! wrote Bhuvi in his tweet.
Having missed the Indian squad for the WTC Final and England series, Bhuvi could well lead the Indian attack in the upcoming limited-overs series against Sri Lanka.
As per SLC’s proposed itinerary to the BCCI, accessed by ESPNcricinfo, the series will commence with the ODIs on July 13, 16, 19 followed by T20I series on July 22, 24, 27. All matches will be played in Colombo’s Premadasa stadium.
