Pakistan captain Babar Azam has stated that the past champions will not take the USA lightly when the two teams meet in Dallas for a Group A match of the T20 World Cup on Thursday, June 6.
On June 6, the 2024 T20 World Cup’s opening Group A match pits the Pakistan cricket team against the USA. Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas will host the eagerly anticipated match. The low-scoring match between Nepal and the Netherlands on June 4 was previously held at this location.
The Pakistani squad, captained by Babar Azam, recently suffered a 0-2 defeat in their three-match away Twenty20 International series against England.
In addition, they dropped their match against Ireland in Dublin last month, following their setback at home against New Zealand in April.
“We will give them the respect they deserve”- Babar Azam
Pakistan‘s captain, Babar Azam, expressed confidence in the team’s preparation for the forthcoming matches as the team gets ready to start their World Cup 2024 campaign on Thursday.
“It will be a proud moment and a big occasion for the USA when they play a former champion on Thursday. After beating Bangladesh 2-1 and then Canada in the tournament opener, they have demonstrated they deserve to be here, which is excellent news for cricket promotion and development in the region. We will give them the respect they deserve without being complacent,” Babar Azam said in a statement from the Pakistan Cricket Board.
The right-handed batter urges the older players to assume accountability in the next matches to prevent the mistakes made in the past, as Pakistan and the USA play their first T20 World Cup match on June 9.
“I have confidence in our fast bowling; our fast bowlers have been performing well here. We will try to avoid past mistakes,” Babar Azam stated.
“Our World Cup starts the day after tomorrow, and now all senior players need to step up and take responsibility. My sole target is to win the World Cup; individual achievements come later. My focus is on what the team needs from me, not on personal records,” he emphasized.
Babar Azam will captain Pakistan in the 2024 men’s T20 World Cup.
