Mithali Raj is the torchbearer of women cricket in India. She has been an inspiring character motivating other girls to take up the game as a profession. Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu is all set to play the role of Mithali on the big screen. Named ‘Shabaash Mithu’, the film will narrate the life, struggle and the journey of Raj and is likely to hit the theatres in 2021.
Often regarded as one of the greatest batswomen to have ever played the game, she is the highest run-scorer in women's international cricket and the only female cricketer to surpass the 6,000 run mark in WODIs. Although Mithali Raj has hanged her boots in the T20I format of the game, she continues to lead India in the ODIs and Test format. The cricketer who hails from Rajasthan also became the first woman to complete 20 years in international cricket.

Taapsee Pannu releases the first poster of Mithali Raj's biopic
Taapsee Pannu stunned the fans when she released the first poster of the biopic on social media. She narrated an incident from 2017 ICC World Cup involving Mithali Raj to caption the poster where Pannu looked dashing. The Bollywood actress, who has already impressed with acting skills is certainly excited with her new venture.

Notably, Taapsee Pannu was referring to Mithali Raj’s comment ahead of the ICC World Cup in 2017 when the skipper was asked by a journalist about her favourite male cricketer. In response she had quipped, “Do you ask the same question to a male cricketer?” Meanwhile, that tournament was critical in bringing a radical change in women's cricket in India despite the women's losing to host England in the final.
Pannu starred biopic of Mithali Raj is likely to hit the theatres on February 5, 2021, which will be directed by Rahul Dholakia.
