‘Just bite the bullet’ – Aakash Chopra stresses on the importance of a multi-dimensional attack for WTC final

The Indian Cricket Team is scheduled to play the ICC World Test Championship final against New Zealand between 18 and 22nd June 2021 in Southampton. Ahead of the summit clash, a lot has been talked about India’s bowling attack to face the Kiwis in the all-important game.

Former cricketer and cricket commentator, Aakash Chopra recently opined that Virat Kohli and Co. should go in with three pacers and two spinners. On the contrary, many former cricketers have stated that India can field four pacers in English conditions.

India should play two spinners in Southampton – Aakash Chopra

While answering a fan’s question in a video posted on his YouTube channel, Chopra suggested that India should play both Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the playing XI, while stressing the importance of a multi-dimensional attack.

“Both of them should be played in my opinion. The opposition team is New Zealand and not an Asian team that plays spin better. Just bite the bullet is what I say, play five bowlers including Jaddu and Ashwin. Both can do well in English conditions also,” stated Aakash Chopra.

“Yes, you definitely have in mind that spinners might not get too much help in English conditions but we have seen that batting becomes easy when it becomes a uni-dimensional attack,” he added.

Both the Indian Men’s and Women’s teams have landed in the UK to participate in their respective series on 3rd June. The entire contingent, including the support and coaching staff have set their base at Hilton Hotel. The hotel is located on the premises of the Ageas Bowl, which is the venue for the grand finale.

Following the World Test Championship final, India would be participating in a five-match Test series against England, starting 4th August 2021. The final Test will be played between 10th and 14th September 2021 in Manchester. India’s women’s team, on the other hand, would play 3 ODIs, 3 T20s, and 1 Test between 16th June and 15 July 2021.
