Cameron Green Ruled Out Of The 2024 ODI Series Against England Due To A Back Injury

Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is in a race to recover for the high-profile five-Test series against India, starting on November 22 at Optus Stadium in Perth. The tall all-rounder has been ruled out of the ongoing ODI series against England, missing the fourth match on September 27 at Lord’s due to a back injury. He will return home for further evaluation.

The young player participated in a few games, scoring 32 and 42, as well as bowling 10 overs and taking two wickets. He probably got injured during the third ODI at Chester-le-Street where England took the five-match series level after losing the first two.

The West Australian is perhaps one of the national team’s first choice test cricketers and during this summer batting at No. 4 his position was elevated in the order. This year in New Zealand the 25-year old National Rep had a breathtaking tour most notably scoring 174 in the first test in Wellington, which they later on won.

The back injury may prevent him from participating in the limited-overs series at home against Pakistan in November.

“Not something I would say no to” –Cameron Green on batting at the top of the order in Test cricket

In the latest interview of Wisden Weekly Cricket Podcast, the all-rounder revealed that he has always found it difficult to picture himself as an opener. However, he is willing to open in the Test series against India. Green said:

“I think it’s totally up to Steve [Smith]. He’s earned the right to bat where he wants to bat and whatever happens, I’m happy to move around him. He’s a great of the game, and he’s earned the right to bat where he wants to bat.”

“You always want to put your hand up to play for Australia and I think opening would be a difficult one, but not something I would say no to. We’ll have to see what the selectors decide to do, but at the same time I was open to do it six or nine months ago.”

Green made his international debut during the last Test series at home against India.
