The wait is over as two well-known franchises of Indian Premier League, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals have been brought back into 2018 IPL.
Both did not play the 2016 and 2017 edition of the famous league in the world. With both teams back, the officials said if we were given an option of retaining a player it would be MS Dhoni.
Under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings have won 2 IPL titles in 2010 and 2011. Also, CSK has finished runners up 4 times. He is one of the most successful captains of Indian Premier League history playing 132 matches, winning 79, losing 51 matches and No result twice. They had a win percentage of 59.84.
In the 2016 edition of Indian Premier League, Rising Pune Super Giants and Gujarat Lions were the new franchises. MS Dhoni was named as the captain of Rising Pune Super Giants that finished 2nd last in the points and this year Steve Smith was given captaincy of RPSG team which reached the finals losing to Mumbai Indians.
“We haven’t yet discussed with Dhoni as his contract with Pune Supergiants ends later this year. However, we will speak to him in the future,” he added.
K George John, one of the directors of CSKCL (Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited) while talking to Times of India said MS Dhoni would be their first priority if they are allowed to retain the players. “If we are given an option of retaining a player, it will definitely be Dhoni,” he said.
MS Dhoni has wonders for Chennai Super Kings who had some top quality players like Brendon McCullum, Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina, Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and top quality coach like Stephen Fleming who was the coach of Rising Pune Supergiants.
CSK started to play from the first season in 2008 and has been a consistent team. Wherever MS Dhoni went, the fans wanted to see especially at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai the home ground of CSK side.
