Chris Gayle again showed his dominance in T20 format again as he smashed 146 not out in 68 balls for Rangpur Riders against Dhaka Dynamites in the Bangladesh Premier League 2017 finals played at Sher E Bangla Stadium, Mirpur. It was an amazing innings from Gayle who created havoc among Dhaka Dynamite”s bowlers during the finals.
Gayle hit 18 sixes and 6 fours during his special knock. During this knock, Gayle was dropped by Shakib- Al- Hasan at 22. He then played great shots and helped Rangpur Riders post a massive total of 209 for 1. Rangpur Riders won the match by 57 runs. It was Riders maiden BPL title.
He made 146 not out in 69 balls. It was one of the best knocks from Gayle in T20 cricket. He broke the record of hitting most sixes in T20 innings of 18 sixes. His previous best was for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League of 17 against Pune Warriors India on 23rd April 2013. It is a great achievement for Gayle to perform in such a consistent manner.
For West Indies, Chris Gayle has two centuries in T20Is. In the previous BPL match, Chris Gayle became the first batsman in T20 cricket to hit 800 sixes. Also against Dhaka Dynamites, the entertainer of T20 cricket also created the record of scoring 11,000 runs in the shortest format which is quite stunning. During this knock, Gayle became the first batsman to score 20 centuries during T20 cricket which makes him a special player.
Gayle made his T20 debut in 2005 and showed great dominance in this format. His ability to take time and then attack the opposition bowlers makes him the boss. In Indian Premier League, Gayle has hit 265 sixes till date, 126 sixes in CPL, 107 sixes in BPL and 103 sixes in T20Is for West Indies.
