The all-rounder from Proteas Chris Morris broke all the banks in the IPL 2021 auction when he bagged a ₹16.25 crores deal in the IPL 2021 auction. After an intense bidding war, Rajasthan Royals took home the former Royal Challengers Bangalore all-rounder.
Incidentally, Bangalore had released the all-rounder, who struggled with injuries before the auction. However, much to the surprise of many, Chris Morris grabbed interest from a couple of franchisees including his former employer. But Rajasthan Royals had the last laugh snapping the tall and lanky all-rounder at a recording-breaking price making him the most expensive player ever at the IPL auction.
It was not expected – Chris Morris
The price tag shocked many across the globe and Morris himself was surprised to see such a big amount beside his name. Reacting to the same, Chris Morris said that he was happy that teams showed interest in him but he didn’t see that mammoth price coming.
“That came as a very big surprise‚ I was never expecting it. I’m just happy to get a gig to be honest. To be back in the IPL is special and whatever happens‚ I just want to play. The nice thing about the auction as players is that it is absolutely out of our control. It’s an absolute lottery. Whatever happens you have got no control over it,” said Morris to reporters as he prepared for a training session with the Titans.
Meanwhile, this will be the second time Chris Morris will ply trade for Rajasthan Royals, as he had made his IPL debut for the franchise. He said that he was fortunate he was having a second stint with the 2008 IPL winners.
“In 2015 I had a really good time with them. I enjoyed the owners and I enjoyed the staff. Even though I have not been with them for a long time‚ every time I see them it’s big hugs and chats and to see how everyone is doing.
Hopefully I stay on the field for all the games. There will be a little bit of added pressure and that is natural‚ but as I said I’m fortunate that I have been part of this franchise before and I know what I am walking into. It’s an exciting year for us,” he added.
