Ever since India crashed out of the 2019 World Cup semi-finals against New Zealand, there have been spiralling speculations regarding an alleged rift between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Committee of Administrators (COA) chief Vinod Rai has put all those stories to rest and said that there has been no such fall-out between the Indian skipper and his deputy.
Rai on the alleged “rift”
“These are all stories created by you guys,” Rai said while ruling out such “baseless” rumors. There were reports that BCCI has been mulling on the split captaincy theory. The men in blue were table-toppers at the end of the league stage, in the marquee event hosted by England and Wales. Rohit Shama hit five centuries in the round-robin stages while the bowlers were impressive with the white-ball.

In a shocking collapse, India were reduced to 24/4, chasing a modest target of 240 in the semis. Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni forged a stunning partnership but that didn”t help India cross the finishing line. Kohli was seen having an animated chat with head coach Ravi Shastri while Rohit Sharma looked dejected in the dressing room.
“Always feels disappointed when you play such good cricket and then 45 minutes of bad cricket puts you out of the tournament. It is difficult to accept and difficult to come to terms with,” Kohli said post the defeat.

Kohli available for the Windies tour
India”s next assignment is against the West Indies and even though there were talks of Kohli taking a break, the 30-year-old will feature in all the three formats. Rohit”s impressive captaincy in the Indian Premier League has also been a point of discussion. In a tournament where the Mumbai Indians” skipper lifted three trophies as the leader, Kohli has failed to deliver time after time. And therefore, many had questioned the latter”s captaincy.
The forthcoming tour will be a challenge for Kohli as he will be without veteran wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni in the white-ball format.
