The England Cricket Team would face their biggest test as they would face India in the five-match test series starting from 25th January 2024 to be played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. They will be pitted against top-quality spinners including Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav.
The pitches in the five matches would be made to suit the Indian spinners. Under the captaincy of Ben Stokes, they would look to play an attacking style and make sure to give a tough fight on Indian soil. In the last two tours of India, England lost the test series in 2016 by 0-4 and then lost the test series during 2020-21 by 1-3.
Former England opener Alastair Cook is concerned that lack of match practice would hurt the England team. Under his captaincy, England registered their first-ever Test series victory on Indian soil in 2012.
“The problem England will have is a lack of match preparation. It would be good if there was some sort of unwritten agreement between countries to put on decent practice matches in decent conditions for touring teams.”
Cook believes that Bazeball is England’s best chance to beat India on Indian soil. Alistar Cook played a key role in helping England register a 2-1 series victory on Indian soil in 2012. Cook finished as the leading run-getter against top quality bowling of India. During his brilliant run, he scored 592 runs from 4 matches (8 innings) including 3 centuries with the best score of 190.
Joe Root Will Play a Key Role
Joe Root will play a key role in England’s success in the test series against top-quality Indian spin bowlers. He has a solid technique and makes sure that the visitors do well in the upcoming Test series starting from 25th January.
Root showed his class with a brilliant double century in the first innings of the 1st Test at Chennai in 2020 which laid a strong foundation for England to build a huge total. They need to begin well if they need to avoid a 1-3 loss in the 2020-21 Test series. Before this Test series, the England Cricket Team had a training camp at Abu Dhabi and would be hoping to prove their worth in tough Indian conditions.
