In the evening session of the inagural edition of the Cricfit Premier League (CPL), we saw VK Krishna Menon Academy take on the RNCA Don Bosco Matunga in the U16 encounter at the Thakur Cricket Stadium in Kandivali. Where we witnessed a stellar knock by Naman Thawar helped his side avenge the VK Krishna Menon Academy by 5 wickets.

It all started at the toss as RNCA Don Bosco Matunga won the toss and elected to bowl first. Opening batters of VK Krishna Menon Academy started off in brisk fashion until the dominant batsman of the two Sumit Singh was dismissed by Aryan Reddy.

What followed was an absolute disaster as they further went on to lose 3 wickets in quick succession. At the halfway mark, they were down with 4 wickets and just 56 runs on the board. Which is when the duo of Fardeen Shaikh and Muhammed Sahil stitched up a 45 run crucial partnership to lift them up from trouble.

Aayush Sawant’s quickfire 12 ball 19 runs knock proved crucial In the end stages of the game in CPL

Then as soon as Fardeen Shaikh was dismissed in the 17th over, VK Krishna Menon Academy couldn’t sustain as they were restricted for just 119 at the end of 20 overs. Aayush Sawant was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up two wickets in his 3 over spell whereas Aryan Reddy and Shreyas Padhi picked a wicket each.

In the follow-up, RNCA Don Bosco Matunga’s opening batsman Aniket Singh was dismissed in the very first over of the innings. Despite VK Krishna Menon Academy having the early momentum in their hand, no bowler could stop Naman Thawar who walked in at three and ended up scoring 48 off 51 deliveries which included 6 fours and 1 six.

But as the match edged closer, Naman Thawar was dismissed, it looked like the match would go down the wire, that is when Aayush Sawant who walked in at 5 scored a quickfire 12 ball 19 runs knock to help see them through to the target of 120 with 8 balls to spare. RNCA Don Bosco Matunga’s Naman Thawar was adjudged the man of the match for his 51 ball knock of 48 runs.
