Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley refuted claims that BCCI, England, and his organization ignored a draft by the International Cricket Council (ICC) aimed at preserving Test cricket. Dismissing reports, Hockley stated, “Categorically, I think there was some misreporting around that.” He emphasized ongoing discussions on optimizing the cricket calendar for global growth.
The proposed changes include additional T20 league windows, adjustments to the World Test Championship points system, 40-over ODIs, concerns about T20Is, and pooling broadcast rights revenue for bilateral series. Hockley clarified, “We’re very much involved with that piece of work,” highlighting Australia’s commitment to supporting ICC initiatives for all cricket formats.
Denying indifference to Test cricket, Hockley revealed discussions with Martin Snedden during the New Zealand-Australia Test, expressing Australia’s dedication to enhancing all three formats. He emphasized Cricket Australia’s influential role in ICC strategy, citing contributions to developments like the World Test Championship.
Highlighting global cricket growth, Hockley mentioned the U.S. embracing the sport and co-hosting the with the West Indies. He endorsed a format strategy where all formats contribute to cricket’s success, aligning with Snedden’s efforts to foster collaboration among members.
Acknowledging Australia’s respect for the World Test Championship, Hockley emphasized its significance to men’s Test cricket.
He stressed ensuring economic viability for countries and configuring the calendar for all three formats.
