Lasith Malinga is the most experienced bowler in the Sri Lankan squad. Despite going for runs in the final of IPL 2019 finals, he produced a magical last ball to dismiss Shardul Thakur to register a thrilling 1 run win over CSK.

He made his ODI debut against UAE on 17th July 2004. Since his debut, Malinga has played 218 matches (212 innings) and taken 322 wickets with 10 times 4 wicket haul and 5 wickets haul eight times. The Sri Lankan veteran is the only bowler to take two hattricks in World Cup history.

Lasith Malinga has been suffering from injuries. In the 2018 Asia Cup, Malinga took 5 wickets from 2 matches in a disappointing Asia Cup for Sri Lanka.

In December 2018, Lasith Malinga was appointed as the captain of the Sri Lankan side.  Post that they suffered 0-3 loss to New Zealand. In 2019, the veteran remained the captain on ODI tour of South Africa but lost the series 0-5.

Before the World Cup 2019, Malinga would be hoping to regain the form and help the Sri Lankan come out of a rough patch in ODI cricket. With the veteran likely to play his last 50 over World Cup, he would be hoping to give a final go to lift the title.
