MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings have faced a major setback ahead of the 2022 season, as their lead bowler Deepak Chahar is expected to miss a large part of the upcoming season due to injury. According to ESPNcricinfo, Deepak might be away from cricket for several weeks. It should be noted that IPL 2022 will run from March 26 till May 29.
Deepak had injured his right quadriceps while bowling his second over in the 3rd match of the recent India vs West Indies T20I series. Chahar was unable to even finish the over and had to leave the field. Later, the bowling all-rounder was ruled out of the Sri Lanka T20I series. The Chennai Super Kings are reportedly waiting for a final verdict from the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, where Deepak is currently rehabbing.
Earlier, Deepak was re-signed by CSK for a whopping INR 14 crores in the IPL 2022 mega-auctions. Deepak has been MS Dhoni’s go-to new ball bowler for a long time now, and his absence will definitely have a significant impact on CSK’s quest for the 5th IPL title.
