It is a widely known fact that MS Dhoni has a great love for the Indian military and he keeps displaying the same by sporting apparels in camouflage most of the times.
However, this time Dhoni sported the symbol of “Balidhan” on his glove which is used by Indian Special Forces. This move from MS Dhoni hasn”t pleased the ICC and the result being its request to BCCI from preventing Dhoni using it for the next time.
The main reason being that ICC conventions never allow a player to display symbols which deal with political, religious and racial connects. Though Dhoni sported gives in camouflage in the past, this symbol on the globe has really created a controversy among the ICC managers.
After ICC “s request to the BCCI, the fans aren”t pleased much with the behaviour of ICC. Though Dhoni”s love for military was viewed from another point of view from the ICC, the fans are really backing Dhoni on this regard.
A lot of” Thala” enthusiasts kept lending their support on the social media platforms and wanted him to continue sporting the same gloves for the rest of the world cup. Twitter erupted on this issue where a lot of fan clubs kept lending their invaluable hand to the Indian cricket legend.
The latest news from the BCCI is that it has written a letter to the ICC seeking permission to let Dhoni sport the “symbol” of pride on his gloves for the rest of the tournament. Vinod Rai, the Committee of Administrators chief said: “We have already written (to ICC to seek permission for MS Dhoni to wear “Balidaan” insignia on his gloves), will speak more after the meeting (CoA meeting”.
Claire Furlong, ICC General Manager, Strategic Communications spoke on the same that if BCCI seeks permission for MS Dhoni to use “Balidaan” insignia gloves:” As of now, I do not know. It would need to be considered by the ICC”. Few sources from ICC say that if the management of BCCI and Dhoni himself can convince the ICC that the symbol has no connect with political or racial issues, it may consider giving a different judgment.
This backing has made the fans crazy and it will be interesting to see if ICC can consider the request of the BCCI. The #Dhonikeeptheglove was one of the most discussed topics in Twitter and This is how Twitter reacted for ICC”s objection on the same :
Indian Army has always been independent irrespective of the political party in power. We are proud of them. Lt. Col. @msdhoni has worn the Army insignia as a symbol of pride. Doesn’t hurt anyone’s sentiments, In fact it honours the brave #DhoniKeepTheGlove #WorldCup2019

Dear Lt Col @msdhoni
You are an officer of Para Regt. Don’t take off those gloves. Balidaan is a badge of honour. It’s represents the finest of Indian Army. I have always looked at that badge with awe & respect. The nation stands with you.

BCCI stands with Dhoni. CoA chief Vinod Rai says, “ICC must allow @msdhoni to keep wearing same gloves.” #DhoniKeepTheGlove

Not that I am against, but have seen players performing religious activities on the ground, the English wear three lions, which is a political symbol .. Rules have to stop everything, if they have to @ICC .. No matter what, I will stand by @msdhoni's decision. #DhoniKeepTheGlove https://t.co/4PedBNCVWd

MS Dhoni is a Lt. colonel in the Indian Army. Moreover he is a special forces designate. ICC rules states that any form of political, religious & racial statement can't be made with the playing outfit. The insignia does none of that.#DhoniKeepTheGlove

WTF! International Cricket Council @ICC orders Indian wicketkeeper Lt. Col. @MSDhoni to remove his Army insignia on his gloves. #DhoniKeepTheGlove & @BCCI shd back him to the hilt. In a World Cup where Islamist moustacheless beards r tolerated, Dhoni's gloves r harmless. #CWC19

Dear all at @ICC ,when you are done with which symbol a legendary cricketer (read MS Dhoni) wears on his glove, pls do take time to check out the standard of umpiring.
The World Cup?Really now!
BTW The 'Balidaan Badge' doesn't disrespect anyone.#DhoniKeepTheGlove#AUSvWI #CWC19 pic.twitter.com/IDTK6ELrC5— Rahul Dev (@RahulDevRising) June 6, 2019
This should be the BCCI's official response to ICC's request. #DhoniKeepTheGlove pic.twitter.com/1P2tSfPbjn

The badge on the maroon beret speaks volume about who you are & what you are capable of! The Balidaan Badge is earned by just 4-5 volunteers out of selected 100. The Balidaan Badge is only for SF badged members. pic.twitter.com/Tt5iVDg3ho— LambodarPrasadDash (@LambodarPrDash) June 6, 2019

In August 2015 , MS Dhoni completed 5 Jumps and became a qualified paratrooper & will wear the coveted Para Wings insignia after completing his fifth jump from an IAF AN-32 aircraft as part of his training at the Paratroopers Training School (PTS) in Agra. #DhoniKeepTheGlove pic.twitter.com/8OU2dUc3Tb

Dear ICC .. Balidan means sacrifice – the motto of the Indian Para Special forces. The spirit of sacrifice thats taken a fantastic human being like Dhoni to the top of his game. #DhoniKeepTheGlove pic.twitter.com/Kcx3yurxQM

Dear @ICC,
Instead of focussing on MS Dhoni's gloves better focus on improving the quality of umpires.
4 decisions overturned so far in today's game + a huge No Ball miss that costed Chris Gayle's wicket. We have better umpires in our gully cricket. #DhoniKeepTheGlove #CWC19 https://t.co/EqeYYYDLUt pic.twitter.com/YTjB5ThcNK

Kindly step ahead to make changes here rather than interfering in player's badges and stuff. #dhonikeeptheglove #CricketWorldCup19 pic.twitter.com/FinYORnuOi— Troll Dhoni Haters Tamil Version (@tdhtv_offl) June 6, 2019
