Dodda Ganesh, the former India and Karnataka fast bowler, has been dismissed from his role as the head coach of the Kenya men’s cricket team, merely a month after his appointment on August 12. Ganesh, who has a brief international career with four Test matches and one ODI for India, had been hired on a one-year contract.
However, a recent report by nation.africa reveals that Cricket Kenya’s executive board found the appointment irregular. The board’s decision was formalized in a letter signed by Pearlyne Omami, Cricket Kenya’s Director of Women’s Cricket, representing the board members.
The letter, referencing a resolution passed on August 28, 2024, cited that Ganesh’s appointment did not follow the established procedures as outlined in the Cricket Kenya Constitution, specifically Articles 5.9 and 8.4.3. The letter declared the contract, which was executed on August 7, 2024, between Ganesh and Mr. Manoj Patel, as void.
It further stated that Cricket Kenya would not recognize this contract and instructed Ganesh to cease all engagements with the men’s national cricket team immediately. The letter advised any concerns or claims regarding the appointment to be directed to Mr. Manoj Patel and other individuals involved in the irregular appointment process.
Following Ganesh’s sudden departure, former international players Lameck Onyango and Joseph Angara will assume the roles of head coach and assistant coach of the Kenya men’s cricket team, respectively.
Their initial task will be to prepare the team for the ICC Division 2 Challenge League, where Kenya will compete against Papua New Guinea, Qatar, Denmark, and Jersey in Nairobi this September. Additionally, the team will gear up for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub-regional Qualifier B tournament, which will be held in Nairobi from October 17-26, where Kenya will face Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Mozambique, Seychelles, and Gambia.
