Wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant shared his thoughts on Bazball after England suffered a 4-1 defeat in the recently concluded Test series against India. He expressed that the teams need to play on their strengths and not think about the opposition.
England’s Bazball approach has been one of the most talked about. It also came under criticism when they failed to win the test series against India. Rishabh Pant feels the opposition shouldn’t worry much about the Bazball approach. Speaking in the Club Prairie Fire podcast on YouTube, Rishabh Pant said,
“I don’t think we are thinking about it too much. As a team, you have to find your strength and not think about the opposition too much. Yes, you have to take the knowledge of how they play but you got to focus on yourself and give your best shot instead of thinking about other teams.”
When asked about his favourite England bowler whom he enjoyed hitting against the most, Pant said,
“I think every bowler. It’s so difficult to single out names because you want to play the best. But I would say the difficult part was Jimmy Anderson, I wouldn’t lie. He is a legend of the game and the way he has played is amazing.”
That guy is amazing: Rishabh Pant on James Anderson
Team India batter Rishabh Pant further spoke about his on-field clashes with James Anderson. They have had some friendly tussles on the field. Anderson has dismissed Pant thrice in Test cricket, conceding 196 runs at an average of 32.7. Talking about the veteran England pacer, Rishabh Pant said,
“I feel that whatever you are doing on the field, it’s a different ball game altogether. But when you field respect for someone, you should appreciate that. That’s what cricket has taught me. That guy is amazing. Day in and day out just coming and bowling there, each day that’s what he does.”
Rishabh Pant will be making a return to the sport during the 2024 Indian Premier League season. He will play for the Delhi Capitals in the tournament, as they kick off their campaign on Saturday, March 23 against Punjab Kings.
