In December 2022, Rishabh Pant encountered a severe road accident, resulting in substantial injuries that have kept him sidelined since. Cricket enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the onset of the 17th edition of the India Premier League (IPL), scheduled to commence in March.

The lucrative T20 league promises captivating moments on the cricket field. However, another highly anticipated event is the return of Rishabh Pant, the wicketkeeper-batsman and captain of the Delhi Capitals. Despite his traumatic near-death experience on the Delhi-Dehradun highway, Pant is gearing up for a comeback in the upcoming IPL season.

Rishabh Pant said said on Star Sports series ‘Believe’: “First time in my life, I felt like my time in this world is up. During the accident, I was aware of the wounds, but I was lucky as it could have been even more serious. I was feeling that someone saved me. I asked the doctor how long will it take for me to recover, he said it would take 16-18 months. I knew I had to work hard to cut this recovery time.”

Having recently shared details about the harrowing incident, Pant’s resilience and determination have become focal points of discussion. Amidst the excitement surrounding his return, former India pacer Zaheer Khan has raised the prospect that, despite a stellar performance in the IPL, selectors may not include Pant in the T20 World Cup 2024.

This speculation adds an intriguing layer of uncertainty to Pant’s future in international cricket, underscoring the challenges he faces on his journey back to full form and participation in high-profile tournaments. As fans eagerly await the IPL’s commencement, Pant’s comeback story is poised to be a significant narrative, injecting both drama and anticipation into the cricketing landscape.

Zaheer Khan said: “If you see Rishabh Pant’s journey, the turn he has gone through is not easy for any player. Firstly, everyone who is attached to cricket will be happy once he comes back on the field. He has a lot of hurdles to cross.”

“Firstly, he has to come back and play. It’s not easy at this level. You need to get used to it and get the rhythm back. Those things might take time. It’s great if it doesn’t. However, keeping all things in mind, even if he has a very good IPL, I don’t think the team will be thinking in that direction,” he further added.
