Team India is all set for a face-off against England in the 5 match Test series. The first match of the high-profile clash will begin on 4 August at Nottingham. Meanwhile former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman stated that India should stick with the same bowling line-up for the first Test against England which they fielded in the World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand.
Notably, in the WTC final India’s pace unit consisted of three of the best fast bowlers of India. Namely Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, and Ishant Sharma. Also, Virat Kohli and side included two finger spinners in the WTC final at Southampton. Ravichandran Ashwin was the first spinner and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was the second spinner of team India.

While talking about India’s bowling unit in the WTC final, VVS Laxman pinpointed, bowling combination was perfect. Laxman said on Star Sports:
“The bowling combination Virat Kohli fielded in the WTC final is the right one because with that you have greater depth in your batting and you have three outstanding pace bowlers – Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, and Bumrah.”
The 46-year-old praised Ashwin and Jadeja. Also, he added that Jadeja delivers performance for the team both with bat and ball. VVS Laxman said:
“If we talk about Ravichandran Ashwin, there is no lack of skill and experience. Ravindra Jadeja can show his prowess not only in bowling but with the bat as well. So, I believe that will be the balanced playing XI.”
Although India might go with the same bowling unit of the WTC final in the England series. Still, one bowler that has been the talk of the town is Mohammad Siraj. Notably, Siraj has been in very good form lately and is expected to be included in the playing XI.
He can win matches and be the trump card for this series” – VVS Laxman on Bumrah
During the discussion on Star Sports, VVS Laxman labeled Jasprit Bumrah as the match-winner. Former Indian cricketer elaborated:
“Jasprit Bumrah will have to work on one thing. We know he has impressed everyone in international cricket over the last couple of years, especially in overseas Test matches. He is a wicket-taking bowler, a match-winner.”
VVS Laxman concluded by pinpointing that Bumrah can improve his length slightly in the English conditions. Also, he said Bumrah can turn out to be India’s trump card in the England Test series.
“But if we talk about the World Test Championship final, Jasprit Bumrah’s length is back of length. In English conditions, if you have to take wickets, the more you pitch the ball up, the greater chance for it to swing. I believe if he can improve his length slightly, he can win matches and be the trump card for this series.”
