Former England skipper Nasser Hussain thinks Joe Root needs to be a ruthless and angry captain as his team takes on the field in the third Test at Headingley. Root’s captaincy is under the scanner after India beat his side by 151 runs at Lord’s. They lost all 10 wickets on the final day and inside two and a half sessions to lose the game.
Meanwhile, in his column for Daily Mail, Nasser Hussain has urged Joe Root to be an angry captain.
“The only thing I would say, not just about Root but also this England regime, is that it seems they do not quite know when to be ruthless and when is the right time for Joe to be an angry captain. The time to offer the stick rather than the carrot.”
Joe Root Close To Equalling Michael Vaughan
Root was handed over the captaincy in 2017 and has won 25 Tests. He is one shy from equalling former England skipper Michael Vaughan’s tally of 26 Test wins as captain.
Nasser Hussain further in his column has said that Root has picked the wong battles so far in the series. Instead of picking a battle with the Indian pacers, Hussain suggested that Root should have picked a battle against the England management who seems to be bossing around the squad and even the schedule.
We've named our squad for the third LV= Insurance Test match.

“At times, Joe picks the wrong moment to go into battle. He got it wrong on that final morning at Lord’s when he picked a fight with Jasprit Bumrah. He would be better off picking a battle with his top three over their lack of runs, or the ECB over scheduling. And maybe he should be picking a battle with Ashley Giles and Silverwood about why he has had one arm tied behind his back and hasn’t had his best Test side at any stage in the last year. I’d like to see an angry Joe then.”
