Team India has been in a red hot form in the recent Test series against England. In the first two matches of the series which took place at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, and Lord’s London. India has been the dominant side so far and has performed amazingly as a collective unit. On the other hand, England hasn’t looked very great and they are overdependent on the skipper Joe Root.

India’s pace battery has earned a lot of praise from cricket fans and experts for their performance in the Test series. Notably, India has changed the bowling template, and now instead of 3 Pacers and 2 Spinners. India plays 4 pacers and sole spinner in the team. Also, the formula has done wonders for India as the Pacers have done a great job by dominating the English batsmen. However Indian pace battery has failed to conquer England captain Joe Root. Throughout the two games somehow Root has found a way to dismantle India’s pace unit.

So far in the series Root has registered 1 half-century and two centuries in his name. He scored 64 and 109 in the first Test at Nottingham and 180* and 33 in the second Test at Lord’s. These scored make Joe Root the highest run-getter of the series with 386 runs under his belt. The 30-year-old has caused a lot of trouble for India during the series. If somehow India finds a way to get the wicket of Root early on, it will be a great way towards winning the Test series on English soil first time after 2007

“Virat should bring in Bumrah straightway whenever Root comes to the crease” – Monty Panesar

Former England cricketer Monty Panesar praised Joe Root was showing a classy performance. He further talked about what strategy India should use to dismiss Joe Root. Panesar believes Indian captain Virat Kohli should give the ball instantly to Jasprit Bumrah when Joe Root comes to bat. Notably, Bumrah has dismissed Joe Root twice in the series and he is also the highest wicket-taker so far with 12 wickets. Panesar told TimesofIndia.com :

Joe Root’s balance is so beautiful at the moment. He is in great form. He is picking the short pitch bowling really well. He has a good balance at the crease. The way to get him out is to bowl at the fifth stump line and outside the off stump. His wicket was planned by Virat in the second innings and Bumrah executed it well. Virat should again make a plan against Root. Root plays the pull shot really well, so don’t bowl short pitch balls to him. Virat should bring in Bumrah straightway whenever Root comes to the crease. Both Bumrah and Siraj can put pressure on a batman from the word go. That’s what they did with Root in the second innings and the captain lost his wicket,”

Panesar also added that India needs to frustrate Root if they have to get ahead in the game. Former England cricketer stated:

You need to frustrate Root and force him to change his position. He likes to bat with a flow. If the flow is not happening, he will change his position and game plan. That’s what India would want. That’s the way India can get Root out early.”

“You need to wait and watch to make a batsman like Root make a mistake” – Maninder Singh

Meanwhile, Former Indian cricketer Maninder Singh has opined that India needs to be patient. Also, they need to keep bowling in good line and length and hope for Joe Root to make a mistake.

“When a man is in sublime form, you have to wait for him to make a mistake. You need to keep bowling at a certain area where you think he might struggle and feel uncomfortable to play on. You need to wait and watch to make a batsman like Root make a mistake, lose his concentration. That’s all you can do”: Maninder Singh

“The team needs to sit down and make a strategy against Root” – Dilip Vengsarkar

Former Indian cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar who was part of India’s first victory at Lord’s opined Virat Kohli might have plans to get rid of the root.

“He (Root) is one of the best batsmen in the world. It is always good when you get the best man, in the opposition team, out early it gives you a big advantage and upper hand in a match. The team needs to sit down and make a strategy against Root. The pacers have done a commendable job. I am sure Virat must have some plans against Root, Vengsarkar told Timesofindia.com
