ENG vs IND 2021: Virat Kohli Opens Up On His Lows Of 2014 England Tour

Virat Kohli on 2014 England Tour

Virat Kohli had only scored a total of 134 runs during the Test series in England in 2014.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli is a batting legend now. However, this was not the case back in 2014, when he was just starting to show the world his real mettle. India’s trip to England in 2014 was one of the lowest points in Kohli’s career. The topic is repeatedly spoken about whenever India has been on the England shores since the. Kohli scored a mere 134 runs in the series from 10 innings which was one of his lowest scores in his Test series in his career. Kohli averaged just a shade over 13 with scores of 1, 8, 25, 0, 39, 28, 0, 7, 6 and 20. To add to his low scores he became a bunny to James Anderson who was getting him dismissed with balls outside the off stump with Kohli knocking him on a regular basis

The Indian skipper Virat Kohli redeemed himself in his next tour to England scoring almost 600 runs across four Test matches with two tons and three fifties. He dominated Anderson this time around as the latter failed to dismiss him even once on this series. Talking to Dinesh Karthik for Sky Sports, Kohli opened up on that tour and spoke about his rough patch as an international cricketer.

“To be honest before that Australia tour, I was treating every foreign tour like, more like an engineering exam, that I have to pass somehow and I have to show people that I can play at this level,” Kohli told Dinesh Karthik in an interaction on Sky Sports.

He further said that how people became distant from him on that tour and he had no one to speak to about his dry run of form. He also spoke about how people were always talking about him and criticising his game.

Virat Kohli Speaks About Pursuit Of Excellence

“There was hardly anyone who was looking towards me and saying listen let’s work together and you know try to get your game up to speed, everyone was just going after me left, right and centre. So, I was like I am playing to prove these people long, for what, I have got nothing to do with them, they literally have nothing to contribute in my life.”

Virat Kohli also spoke about his discussions with Sachin Tendulkar after returning from the tour and how the pep talks with the batting legend helped him regain his confidence.
