England skipper Jos Buttler is surprised with the criticism that veteran batter Virat Kohli is facing owing to the Indian cricketers’ poor run in international cricket. Kohli is undoubtedly one of the finest cricketers across formats in world cricket. However, his form for the last couple of years has been a cause of worry for the fans and the Indian team.
Virat Kohli has failed to make an impact in ongoing India’s tour of England so far. In the second ODI on Thursday, he was dismissed for just 16 runs, while chasing 247 in the second innings. India ultimately lost the match by 100 runs at the Lord’s Cricket Stadium. The veteran batter’s form has drawn a lot of criticism from fans and experts, who have questioned his place in the Indian team.
However, England skipper Jos Buttler has rallied behind Virat Kohli, expressing that the Indian cricketer is due for a big inning. Speaking at the post-match media interaction, Buttler stated that Virat Kohli is one of the best players in the world. He said
“I suppose in a little way it’s quite refreshing for the rest of us that he [Kohli] is human and he can have a couple of low scores as well, but look he has been one of the best players, if not the best player in ODI cricket in the world.”
Buttler tells me why India should not be after #Kohli. The answer is worthy of putting on loop. https://t.co/pufVJkKKMf via @YouTube #CricketTwitter #INDvsENG

His record speaks for himself: Jos Buttler backs Virat Kohli amid batting slump
England captain Jos Buttler further pointed out that all batters go through lean patches in their career. He added that a player of Virat Kohli’s class is always due to a good knock. Jos Buttler also expressed that the Indian cricketer has a great record, which proves his quality at the international level. The England skipper said,
“So he’s been a fantastic player for so many years and all batters. It just proves, go through runs of the form where they don’t perform as well as they can do sometimes, but certainly, as an opposition captain, you know a player of that class is always due. So you’re hoping that it doesn’t come against us.”
“Yeah, incredibly surprised, as I said, his record speaks for himself. The matches he’s won for India and yeah, why would you question that?” Buttler added.
