Under the captaincy of Eoin Morgan, the England Cricket team convincingly won the recent 5 match ODI series against New Zealand 3-2 in their own den, defeating Australia in Australia 4-1. By the virtue of those results, England dethroned India from number 1 position in the latest ODI team rankings announced by International Cricket Council today.
After their horrible exit in the first round of World Cup 2015, under the captaincy of Eoin Morgan, the England Cricket team have produced an aggressive brand of cricket defeating teams like Australia in Australia, Bangladesh in Bangladesh, gave a tough fight to India losing the series 1-2, also New Zealand in New Zealand. It is the first time that England has reached the top of ODI rankings since January 2013.
England main strength has been their batting consisting of a specialist. They have the highest ODI total of 444.
Team England have shown lots of promise and gained 8 points. It is great news for England Cricket to see them at the top of ODI rankings. For the first time, England is a strong contender to win the 50 over World Cup which will take place from 30th May to 14th July 2019.
Team India was the number 1 ODI ranked side in ODI’s after a historic series 5-1 over South Africa in South Africa. Under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, they have dropped to 2nd place with 122 points.
South Africa is at number 3 in the latest ODI rankings with 113 points and has dropped down 2 points. At number 4, Kane Williamson New Zealand has dropped down 2 points.
Australia has dropped down 8 points and slipped to 5th in ODI rankings. They have a tough challenge ahead without their star players Steve Smith, David Warner.
Pakistan is at 6th place and is at 102 points. Bangladesh is currently at 7th position in ODI rankings with 93 points.
Sri Lanka is struggling at the present moment and is at 8th place in team rankings. West Indies who qualified for World Cup 2019 is at 9th.
The final place belongs to Afghanistan who has shown lots of promise who have qualified for the 2nd World Cup in succession.
