England has suffered scare ahead of the Ashes as their spearhead in the longest format of the game, James Anderson has been ruled out of the four day Test against Ireland which is slated to be played at the home of cricket, Lord’s starting on Wednesday.
He suffered a right calf injury during a county championship match for his county Lancashire against Durham on 2nd July.
“Jimmy will continue to be assessed” ahead of the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston on 1 August, an England and Wales Cricket Board statement said on Tuesday.
Meanwhile chief selector Ed Smith clearly stated that the leading wicket-taker for England in Tests won’t be risked ahead of the Ashes series if there are any doubts over his injury.
The bowling department for England has been plagued by injuries as Mark Wood and Jofra Archer are also recovering from their side strains which they sustained during the epic World Cup final against New Zealand not long ago.
James Anderson is not a part of the white ball set up and hence wasn’t a part of the World Cup squad. During that time he was plying his trade for his county Lancashire.
There is certainly no doubt about the fact that James Anderson is undoubtedly one of the greatest ever bowlers to have played for England. He became the first English bowler to bag 500 wickets in Test cricket not long ago.
Anderson becomes a sensation when the conditions are slightly overcast and the pitch is conducive for swing bowling. He still remains a champion bowler in the longest format of the game.
