A horrible batting display resulted in a 31-run loss for the Indian side at Edgbaston. It had been a one-man show overall as Virat Kohli, the skipper scored over 200 runs in a single game. Lack of support from the batting line – up left things up to captain”s discretion.
This is the second time in a year that India had lost a match chasing a meagre target. Earlier in January, the collapse led to a loss at Capetown. However, the bowling department lived up to the expectations as Ashwin showed his class in seam friendly conditions.
Ishant and Shami bowled their heart out but things didn”t turn in India”s favour. Sam Curran”s responsible knock down the order set the things nicely for the hosts and Stokes” magic with the ball ticked the boxes right for them.
The team will have a lot of homework to do before marking their appearance on August 9 at Lord”s. The batting order is expected to undergo little tweaks to make it a bit stable before facing the fiery English bowling on a greenish track.
Twitter hailed Kohli and bowlers for their efforts but took a dig on the batting order.
Here are a few tweets on the same:
No Asian team has won a Test at Edgbaston…the record stays intact. Bowling stood up. Kohli was exceptional. Catching and batting let India down. #EngvInd

#ENGvIND reminded me of early 1990s . Sachin out. TV off. Is that repeating? @bhogleharsha #Kohli @imVkohli

Standing ovation for Kohli. The whole crowd recognises a champion. Also: I have no fingernails. #ENGvIND

Thrilling test match but England collectively were much better. Sam Curran's contribution with the bat yesterday eventually turned out to be the difference. India will look for more contributions from the other batsmen #ENGvIND

Why exactly was Ishant Sharma protecting Pandya whereas it should be the other way round? #EngvInd

Virat Kohli did everything to win this game as a batsman and as a captain. He has every reason to feel disappointed. He deserved nothing but Victory. A lot of positives to take into the next test for India on the bowling front. #ENGvIND

Chin Up Guys. This test could have gone both ways, unfortunately it wasn't our day. But very very well played by both teams. What a wonderful advertisement for test cricket. Tough luck India and Well played England. Looking forward for a great series ahead. #ENGvIND

Fans will be angry and emotional right now, but it's a long series and I strongly believe we should allow this team to forget this episode and rally around them for the next #Test. Well played @imVkohli tough luck. Congratulations #ENG . Time to move on!! #ENGvIND

Hardik Pandya's score depends on the type of his hairstyle. We will not make such jokes if Pandya wins us the match today. #ENGvIND

90's – Sachin OUT – Ab India nahi jeet sakta.
2018 – Virat OUT – Ab India nahi jeet sakta.

Current Indian batting line up seems to be susceptible to swing bowling. Current dry weather is helping spin bowling. If weather remains dry we should play two spinners.Pujara with county experience should tried in second test. #ENGvIND

Fair result. You don't deserve to win when you have the opposition at 100 for 7 and let them double the score especially with their own flaky batting line up overseas.#ENGvIND
